After a twelve year gap since the final Christmas special of The Office, Ricky Gervais brings his signature creation David Brent to the big screen in this entertaining and entirely unnecessary return. David Brent: Life On The Road is cringe comedy of the highest order, an always funny and at times painfully awkward mockumentary that follows Brent in his endless quest for rock stardom, complete with every possible embarrassment that comes from it. There are occasional moments of genius throughout, but fumbles an ending way too reminiscent of the show’s finale. Unfortunately it’s also sorely lacking in heart – something the iconic Tim and Dawn romance had in spades.
