A socially awkward high school senior befriends a cancer stricken classmate in this funny coming of age drama by director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. The cast are an assortment of loveable creations, from the three characters of the title brilliantly played by newcomers Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke and RJ Cyler to the stabilizing support from Jon Bernthal, Connie Britton and the always welcome Nick Offerman. The screenplay is quirky without being overbearing and Gomez-Rejon handles it all with breezy aplomb, ably switching from hilarious to heartache and culminating in one particularly moving and beautiful scene towards the end. Me And Earl And The Dying Girl is a sweet natured and charmingly odd entry in the teen genre.
