A violent, profanity laced sports comedy about a dim-witted bouncer who finds himself on a minor-league ice hockey team after beating a player unconscious while attending a game, this is every bit as thuggish and brutal as expected from its premise. Thankfully it’s also subtly heartwarming too, with Seann William Scott a nice surprise as the sweet natured Doug “The Thug” Glatt and Liev Schreiber giving the nemesis Ross “The Boss” Rhea a quiet pathos amongst all the intimidation. With its heavy splashes of blood and violence and an unapologetically crude screenplay, this is not for everyone. Amongst barrel loads of bland comedies these days though, Goon is a blast of refreshingly blunt and uplifting fun.
