Based on the bestselling children’s novel, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children arrived on a series of promising trailers but lands with a thud – a frustratingly dull fantasy adventure with only occasional flashes of the wild imagination Tim Burton is known for. Burton and the hypnotic Eva Green seem like a match made in heaven, but on their second collaboration the star is horrifically underused – Green doesn’t appear until the second act before missing the action packed finale completely. Worst of all its weirdness feels forced, something that shouldn’t happen in a Burton film. Maybe it’s that the source material was never that good to begin with, but his trademark dark eccentricity misses the mark here.
