A horror comedy not especially scary nor particularly funny, The Final Girls follows a group of teens sucked into the world of a cult slasher flick called Camp Bloodbath, aiming for the meta brilliance of Scream and The Cabin In The Woods without ever reaching the heights of either. Beneath the in-jokes and knowing winks though, there’s a surprisingly warm heart in Taissa Farmiga and Malin Åkerman’s reunited mother and daughter that gives the film it’s pulse. They’re surrounded by a great cast of comedic stars – Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch and Adam DeVine as his usual hilariously obnoxious self – but it’s a wild eyed Angela Trimbur as dim-witted party girl Tina who steals the movie.
