Having orchestrated a triumphant return to the X-Men franchise with the surprisingly impressive X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Bryan Singer comes back down to earth with a thud. X-Men: Apocalypse is a sub-par Michael Bay movie hiding behind the good will afforded its Oscar nominated director. Drowns in a nonsensical plot and flat finale, and clearly wastes an incredible cast and promising new batch of X-Men in Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Alexandra Shipp. Even a brief high in Evan Peters’ Quicksilver set piece is overshadowed by the fact it had already been done in the previous film. This is a massive low point after a pair of series-rejuvenating prequels.
