Met with an outcry upon release from human rights groups over its “disability death porn” outlook, Me Before You is the story of the absurdly cheerful Lou, played by Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, who takes a job as caregiver for Sam Claflin’s recently paralysed banker. Clarke is completely adorable in a role worlds away from Daenerys Targaryen and in general the cast hold their own, but this is light and fluffy sop striving desperately for poignancy. Frustrating in stages, clumsy, overreaching and saddled with an insultingly manipulative third act, this is just barely passable thanks solely to the presence of Clarke – a joy to watch throughout.
