This long gestating passion project for Ryan Reynolds is thankfully worlds away from the character’s first appearance in the woeful X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This is the R-rated, fourth wall breaking, wise-cracking mercenary of the comics brought to life, and a career changing performance from Reynolds himself. The plot isn’t revolutionary, particularly in its all too familiar third act, and its villain is only worthwhile due to the endless mocking he receives from our hero, but this is relentlessly enjoyable and a massive success for its star. Like its title character, Deadpool is a foul-mouthed, juvenile, viciously violent, and completely refreshing antidote to superhero fatigue.
