The latest attempt at the iconic literary hero is filled with good intentions and interesting ideas, but seems weirdly subdued given the subject matter. The small hints at his previous life shown in the first act – visible scars on his face and a glimpse of his damaged hands – provide an appropriate mythology building set-up that unfortunately never completely eventuates into the epic it deserves to be. Alexander Skarsgård is a good choice as Tarzan and David Yates proves there is a directing world ready for him outside of the Harry Potter franchise, but The Legend Of Tarzan is good without being great. Margot Robbie is an indisputable star though.
