When it works, the sequel to 2014’s surprise hit runs like a perfectly oiled machine, zeroing in on the irreverent charm, the awesomely cheesy soundtrack and the hilarious chemistry that made the original such a refreshing entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 can’t keep it up, lacking the surprise and spark of its predecessor and opting to split the core group up for much of its running time. Still, this is clearly more fun than most, a giddy, heartwarming explosion of a film – an early space battle/Groot dance scene to the sounds of ELO’s Mr. Blue Sky is the perfect antidote to any superhero fatigue.
