Director Ben Falcone teams again with wife Melissa McCarthy for this patchy comedy about a disgraced business mogul attempting to build an empire using girl scouts to sell brownies. McCarthy is her usual outrageous self, settling for her loud and obnoxious shtick once again, while Peter Dinklage and the chronically underrated Kristen Bell draw some of the biggest laughs of the movie. Peppered with a few genuinely hilarious scenes and clearly a step up from the husband and wife team’s previous film Tammy, this is still nowhere close to the standard of McCarthy’s best work. Much like Falcone’s direction, The Boss is lacklustre yet harmless fun.
