Blumhouse Productions adds another low budget hit to its catalogue with Ouija: Origin Of Evil, a prequel to the critically reviled box office hit of 2014. The first film was a by-numbers horror that struggled to match its infamously creepy spirit board with any suitable scares, something director Mike Flanagan has no trouble with here. The three female leads are all excellent, but Flanagan deserves all the praise in the world for turning a formally bland franchise into a genuinely frightening creeper. It won’t win any awards for originality, but with a likeably frenetic third act and James Wan-esque sparks of creativity, this is well worth a look.
