A remake that embraces the absurdity of the original while still aiming for horrifying scares, The Blob was destined for cult status from day one. With its hilariously grotesque monster and the casting of Johnny Drama himself Kevin Dillon, this mixes appropriately gruesome death scenes with a bizarre cheesiness, aiming for a sweet spot between the grisly horror of Carpenter’s The Thing and the campy exaggeration of Raimi’s Evil Dead 2. Nowhere near the genius of either of those, this is a bad movie saved by a scary first half, impressive special effects and an unashamedly ridiculous final act dripping with moronic one liners.
